Design	Russell H. Tandy, Commercial Illustrator Russell H. Tandy, who designed internal and cover art for the first 26 Nancy Drew books from 1930 to 1949, likely created the infamous Nancy Drew silhouette that graced the Nancy Drew book covers from 1932 until 1961. The iconic silhouette has appeared in shades of orange to dark navy in various incarnations featuring a scarf, Nancy in heels and a shadow below, then later a revised silhouette without the scarf/shadow and in more sensible flats. There's lots of intrigue that surrounds Tandy, who is also said to have been a drinking buddy of Salvador Dali and Ernest Hemingway.
